Camping
Ethics

Camping in Hemsedal is pure freedom – but freedom comes with responsibility. We want you to have the best experience, while taking care of nature and our local communities.
1. Follow the rules of the right to roam
You’re free to explore nature, but you must show respect for wildlife, people and the environment.
2. Use campsites and designated motorhome areas
They’re safe, comfortable, and they support local businesses.
3. Be mindful when wild camping
Stay at least 150 metres away from buildings, avoid farmland, don’t park in passing places, and check the weather – the mountains can be wild.
4. Keep four metres between vehicles/tents
For safety and comfort, always leave some breathing room.
5. Respect signs and restrictions
If camping is prohibited, don’t stay there. It’s that simple.
6. Drive safely and with care
Mountain roads can be narrow – take your time and use passing bays to let others by.
7. Shop local – discover more
Taste Hemsedal! Buy local food and crafts – it makes your journey richer.
8. Leave animals in peace
Don’t feed wildlife. Close gates, and keep your dog on a leash where required.
9. Clean up after yourself
Use waste bins and disposal stations – leave nature as you found it.
10. Let nature rest
Don’t share “secret spots” that can’t handle many visitors. Some places are best left quiet.
