At SkiStar Hemsedal, you’ll find perfectly groomed slopes ideal for carving, and for those seeking a bit more excitement, you can challenge yourself on the self-timer course or the skicross track. If you’re the type who loves to show off your tricks, then one of the many parks is the place for you – here, you can hone your skills or simply take a break and soak in the stunning views from the four mountain peaks.

On the clearest, sunniest days, you can even catch a glimpse of Glittertind, Galdhøpiggen, and the peaks of Jotunheimen – a sight that truly embodies the feeling of freedom! For families with children, the expansive kids’ area is a sure winner, with numerous slopes and a dedicated mini-park perfect for the little ones. You can also meet Hemsedal’s beloved snowman, Valle, who ensures that both the skiing fun and entertainment are at their peak for the youngsters.

The area surrounding Hemsedal ski resort offers everything you need – from restaurants and accommodation to shopping and ski rentals.

Did you know that Hemsedal has two ski resorts? In the picturesque Grøndalen, you’ll find Solheisen Ski Centre, a true gem for ski enthusiasts. Here, you can enjoy fantastic skiing both on the slopes and in the park, as well as untouched terrain for those who love to venture off-piste. And if that’s not enough, there are cross-country tracks right across the road – perfect for a relaxing day in the trails.

Are you one of those who’ve caught the ski-touring fever? If so, you’ll feel right at home in Hemsedal. Here, your next mountain adventure can start right from Hemsedal Ski Centre, Solheisen Ski Centre, or one of the many spectacular peaks scattered around the valley.

After a few days on the lifts, switching to summit-touring mode can be a refreshing change. With a rucksack full of snacks and a good dose of enthusiasm, you’re set for an unforgettable journey – perfect for older family members and groups of friends alike. Hemsedal is home to classic tours like Nibbi and Svarthetta, along with several hidden gems that have recently been discovered by avid summit-touring enthusiasts. For inspiration on both easy and challenging routes, we recommend checking out our article on summit-tours in the area. And if you want to delve deeper, the book Toppturer i Hemsedal by mountain guide Jørgen Aamodt is a must-have – packed with tips on well-known classics and new challenges that you may not have explored yet.

But remember – the mountains demand respect. Before setting off, always check the weather forecast and avalanche warnings, and be sure to read our article on safer travel and summit-touring. Every year, avalanche courses are held in Hemsedal, so keep an eye on the calendar to secure your spot. Another smart tip is to hire a guide. This ensures a safe journey both up and down, while also providing valuable advice along the way. Avalanche equipment is essential, and if you’re missing anything, you can easily rent gear from moh. sport.

So, what are you waiting for? Hemsedal’s summit tours are ready to give you your next great mountain adventure!

3. Dog sledding with Skogshorn as your backdrop

Steering your own dog sled team offers a unique sense of freedom, heightened by the thrill of having six powerful dogs leading the way. With Hemsedal Huskies, you get your own dog team, and if you prefer not to drive the sled yourself, your companion can take the reins while you relax and enjoy the ride. The experience begins with the eager howls of the excited dogs, impatient to set off. You’ll harness the dogs yourself, attach them to the sled, and with a sudden jolt, you’re off! Once the dogs start running, a peaceful silence falls over the landscape, broken only by the sound of paws against the snow. Surrounded by snow-covered trees and the majestic peaks, including Skogshorn, you become one with nature. This is an experience not to be missed when you visit Hemsedal this winter.

4. Horseback riding or Sleigh rides in a winter wonderland

Do you love horses? Have you ever tried horseback riding in the winter? At Haugen Farm in Lykkja, you can join either half-day or full-day tours that take you through a winter landscape straight out of a fairytale. When the mountains are blanketed in snow and the sun shines brightly against a clear blue sky, there’s nothing more beautiful than a horseback ride through the hills.

Whether you’re bringing the family or a group of friends, a horse & sleigh ride is an activity that suits almost everyone, regardless of experience. The tours are tailored to the group’s skill level, ensuring a safe and memorable experience for all. 5. Cross-country skiing - the mountains own railway tracks awaits

In Hemsedal, it’s not just about alpine skiing. Here, you’ll find over 250 km of groomed cross-country trails winding through beautiful forests, valleys, and up into the high mountains. Our trails are like the mountain’s own railway tracks – ready to guide you through a snow-covered wonderland!

Starting from week 6, the marked trails on the high mountains are prepared, allowing you to experience the magic of the mountains at their very best. Gravset Ski Stadium is a paradise for cross-country enthusiasts, offering looped trails that cater to everyone from beginners to those seeking a serious challenge – from a gentle 1 km loop to a demanding 20 km circuit. With snowmaking facilities at Gravset, you can count on excellent conditions early in the season.

For those who prefer gentler trails, Totteskogen in the centre offers training loops, and the valley trails running throughout the entire valley and towards Grøndalen are perfect for a leisurely and enjoyable outing. When the spring sun starts to warm the landscape, we recommend a trip on the high mountain trails – from Holdeskaret behind Hemsedal Ski Centre, on Kjølen in Lykkja, or along the historic Kongevegen to Bjøberg and further on to Bulien and Grøndalen. No matter which route you choose, we promise a cross-country skiing experience you won’t soon forget.

6. Après ski - The World’s best Apres-Ski

Stavkroa is the crown jewel – here, you’ll dance and sing along to a seamless mix of modern hits and classic anthems, all expertly curated by Stavkroa’s own DJs. And if you’re in Hemsedal around New Year’s, Easter, or season’s end, don’t miss the Stavkroa All In parties – these are celebrations you’ll remember for a long time!

For a more traditional apres-ski experience, head over to Hollvin, where live bands play those timeless tunes we all love to sing along to. Skistua offers both indoor and outdoor apres-ski, often featuring Norwegian and Swedish bands or DJs who create the perfect vibe. And during Easter and season’s end, legendary festivals are held here, truly capturing the festive spirit!

If you prefer a slightly more relaxed apres-ski, Skigaarden and Skarsnuten, are the places for you. Here, you can bask in the sunshine on the terrace while DJs spin tunes in the background. At Lodgen Spiseri and Fjellkafeen, you can occasionally enjoy troubadours playing soothing music on weekends throughout the season – perfect for those who want to wind down a bit after a day on the slopes.
