What is Winter Via Ferrata?
Via Ferrata means “iron road” and is climbing along fixed cables and bolts in the rock. With a helmet, harness and safety gear, this is an activity many can master – and in winter you get the added thrill of snow, ice and stunning mountain scenery.
How does the trip work?
You take the ski lift and then use snowshoes to reach the starting point
The climbing route itself takes around 3–4 hours in total

Winter activities in Hemsedal
Do I need any climbing experience?
No. Winter Via Ferrata is designed for beginners as well as adventurous first-timers. The guide teaches you everything you need on the spot.
How physically demanding is it?
Moderately demanding. You should be comfortable being active for a few hours and managing some height exposure.
How long does the tour take?
Around 3–4 hours in total, including approach, instruction and the climb itself.
What kind of footwear do I need?
Warm, sturdy winter boots or mountain boots. Avoid low or soft footwear like trainers.
What should I wear?
Dress for a winter day in the mountains: warm layers, windproof jacket and trousers, solid gloves or mittens, and gaiters if you have them.
Do I need my own equipment?
All climbing equipment is provided. Just bring boots, clothes, snacks and something warm to drink.
Where do we meet?
At the car park by the Tinden lift, along Holdeskarveien.
Is the lift pass included in the price?
Yes, the ski lift ride is included.
Do we use snowshoes?
Yes, to reach the starting point safely from the lift.
How exposed is the route?
You are clipped into the steel cable the entire time. The route is safe and well protected, but you should be comfortable with a bit of height.
What if I get nervous halfway?
The guides support you throughout the climb, set the pace and help you through the airy parts. Breaks are absolutely fine.
Is this suitable for children?
It can be suitable for older, active children/teenagers who are not afraid of heights. Ask before booking.
How many people can join?
Small groups work best. A minimum price applies for group bookings.
Can I climb with a backpack?
Yes. A small backpack for snacks, water and spare gloves works well.
What happens in bad weather?
Guides constantly assess conditions. In strong wind, heavy icing or poor visibility, the tour may be moved or postponed for safety.
Can I join if I'm afraid of heights?
You can — as long as you’re motivated. Many guests surprise themselves.
