The most beautiful thing about Hemsedalare the mountains
The mountains are the best thing we have in Hemsedal. And they are even better when experienced from the top. Once you reach the summit and take in the views across the mountain landscape, it quickly becomes clear why so many people keep coming back. Here, you’ll find everything from peaceful walks with panoramic views to airy ridgelines that get your heart racing and full-day hikes in the high mountains that truly take your breath away.
Hiking in Hemsedal
Hemsedal is a paradise for hikers. With more than 450 km of marked trails, there are hikes for every level. From easy gravel roads in the valley to steep mountain paths, summit hikes and rugged alpine terrain.

Topp20 – Hemsedal’s most popular summit hikes
Topp20 has become a favourite among both families and experienced mountain lovers. The concept includes 20 marked hikes with different lengths and difficulty levels.
If you want an easy walk with a gravel road all the way to the top, Høllekølten is a great place to start. Ready for something more challenging? Go for longer day hikes, steeper climbs or try Hemsedal’s highest peak – Høgeloft.
Further down the page you’ll find an overview of all the peaks including:
- estimated hiking time
- difficulty level
- maps and route descriptions
- distance from Hemsedal town centre
Several of the hikes can also be combined into longer round trips or multiple summits in one day.
Before heading out, remember to bring a map, extra clothing and follow the Norwegian mountain safety rules. The mountains will still be there tomorrow.
Turn your hike into a little adventure
For every Topp20 summit completed, you can buy a dedicated summit pin at the Tourist Office or local sports shops in Hemsedal. A great motivation boost for young adventurers — and surprisingly fun for adults too.
Many of the hikes are also perfect for camping or spending a night under the open sky.
Before you head out, we recommend reading up on the Right to Roam and how we can all help protect the nature around us.
Enjoy the hike
