Ascension &
Whitsun weekend in Hemsedal

Water, peaks and fresh mountain air? Recharge right here
May and June in the mountains bring crisp air, snow-free trails (well, mostly snow-free ;) ) and lakes that sparkle in the sun. Here’s what you can get up to in the weekends before summer holidays kick in.
Paddling & climbing:
Join a full-day kayak trip on the Nærøyfjord – an unforgettable nature experience
Feeling brave? Try the Via Ferrata – high, wild and awesome!

Hike or chat and stroll? Both sound good to us
Hemsedal’s surrounding mountains are full of trails, and now the season’s officially open – whether you're after a quick summit or a long, scenic trek across the ridges.
Some local favourites:
Topp20: Hike to well-known peaks like Kyrkjebønnøse, Skogshorn or Raudberg
Take the kids to Buaklanten in Holdeskaret – perfect for little mountain goats
Or hike from the town centre to Fekjanstølane and Ulsåk, and cool off in a natural pool on the way down
You’ll find all trail tips in the Hemsedal app, including a list of routes that are ready to walk now.

Golf, range and tennis with a view
Few things beat swinging a club surrounded by mountains. The 18-hole course at Hemsedal Golf Alpin is open for the season – perfect for combining focus with fantastic views.
Just want to hit a few balls? The driving range in Grøndalen is open too, and right next to it you’ll find a tennis court if you’d rather serve, slice and smash your way into the weekend.

From paws and pedals to panoramic views
You don’t have to choose between furry fun and adrenaline. In Hemsedal, you can greet huskies or alpacas in the morning and hit the bike trails in the afternoon. It’s easy to fill your day with both cuteness and kick.
Furry mountain fun:
Dog cart rides on wheels with Hemsedal Huskies – yes, it’s real and yes, it’s epic
At Dalo Fjellgård you can:
Walk with alpacas
Meet the farm animals (Saturday 31 May and 7 June)
Go for dog cart rides there too!
Ride berms and gravel routes:
Tottelia Bike Park is open – jumps, berms and guaranteed grins!
The gravel roads are ready: Ride along Hemsila, to Kljån, around Lykkja, or over the mountain towards Ål
- Bike rentals are open – no worries if you didn’t bring your own
Skating and playpark vibes
Hemsedal Activity Park is, as always, open and full of fun. You’ll find climbing frames, swings for the little ones, outdoor gym gear for grown-ups, and a skatepark with a bowl and other cool elements for those who love to ride and trick

Spa, padel and fireside chill? Absolutely
Sometimes the best thing to do is… well, nothing. Or at least something very chill. Hemsedal offers plenty of spots that combine mountain vibes with wellness and a splash of luxury. The perfect way to round off a day outdoors.
For those who like their chill with style:
The Pool Club at Fyri Resort is open – pool lounging with mountain views? Yes please.
Fyri’s padel courts open for Whitsun – game on!
Skarsnuten Hotel has a spa with a view – and yes, you should book a massage
Skogstad Hotel in the town centre offers a sauna and hot tub – just what you need after that hike

Food & drink – we’ve got you covered
Mountain air = hungry bellies. Luckily, several eateries are open and serving up everything from pizza and Asian food to locally inspired dishes. And yes – you’ll smell freshly baked flatbread drifting through the valley.
Restaurants and cafés open this weekend:
The restaurants at Fyri Resort, Skogstad Hotel and Skarsnuten Hotel are all open
Hemsedal Flatbrødbakeri is open for Ascension 10am-4pm (Friday & Saturday) and on Whitsun Eve (also until 14:00). They are normally open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm.
Prefer to cook your own meals?
You’ll find loads of tasty ingredients at the grocery stores – perfect for whipping something up in the cabin, packing a trail lunch, or firing up the BBQ in the evening sun.
Shops? Yep – all open!
Whether you’re after snacks, new sunnies, hiking gear, mountain fashion, DIY bits or a summer dress for dinner – Hemsedal’s shops are open all weekend. You’ll probably find something you didn’t know you needed.
What you’ll find:
Sports gear, fashion, building supplies and interiors – it’s all here

So what are you waiting for?
There may not be big concerts or festivals this time – and honestly, that’s kind of perfect. The mountains are ready, the trails are open, and the best of Hemsedal is just waiting to be explored. Take a long weekend in May or June and experience mountain summer before everyone else gets here.
