Climbing is a fun activity for the whole family – from kids as young as 4 years old to experienced climbers. At Hemsedal Climbing Centre, you’ll find challenges for every level, whether you’re a beginner or ready to test yourself on harder routes.

What can you experience?
14-metre climbing walls with 16 routes, graded from 4 to 8+
Autobelay devices on several routes – climb without a partner
Bouldering area with problems from grade 4 to 7b+
Moonboard and training rigs for extra strength and technique
The walls are built by Tjelmeland Friksjon, a Norwegian producer of some of the world’s best climbing walls. The centre is bright, spacious, and offers panoramic views of Hemsedal’s mountains and the ski slopes.
Booking and drop-in
We recommend pre-booking your slot.
An instructor can be booked if you need help or guidance.
Drop-in is possible if there’s availability.
Without a belay certificate you can boulder or climb routes with autobelay (training provided on site).
With a top rope/lead climbing certificate you can also climb outside opening hours (key collected during staffed hours).
Practical information
Location:Hemsedal Climbing Centre, inside SkiStar Lodge Suites, right next to O’Learys
Parking: Short-term parking outside SkiStar Lodge (free for 2 hours / after 17:00)
Difficulty: No prior experience required – levels suited to all abilities
Max climber weight: 120 kg
Age limit: Children under 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult
Equipment: Bring your own gear, or rent climbing shoes and harness at the centre
More than climbing
Depending on the season, you can also rent canoes, SUP boards and via ferrata equipment directly from the climbing centre.

Other winter activities with us
Do I need any climbing experience?
No. You don’t need any prior experience. Both climbing and bouldering are suitable for beginners.
What can I climb without a belay certificate?
You can boulder and use the autobelay routes. Autobelay training is provided on site.
Do I need to bring my own equipment?
You can bring your own shoes and harness, or rent both at the centre.
Is there an age limit?
Children under 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Younger children are welcome as long as they are supervised.
How tall are the climbing walls?
The main walls are 14 metres high with 16 routes graded from 4 to 8+. There is also a dedicated bouldering area.
Do you have autobelay?
Yes, several routes use autobelay, so you can climb without a partner.
Can I come just to boulder?
Absolutely. The bouldering area has problems from grade 4 to 7b+.
What is the Moonboard?
A training wall designed for strength and technique sessions. It’s available for all climbers.
Is drop-in possible?
Yes, depending on capacity. We still recommend booking in advance.
Can I book an instructor?
Yes. Perfect for beginners or groups wanting technique coaching or a safe introduction.
Where is the climbing centre located?
Inside SkiStar Lodge Suites, right next to O’Learys.
Where can I park?
Short-term parking is available at SkiStar Lodge. Free for 2 hours and after 17:00.
What is the maximum weight limit?
120 kg, for safety reasons.
Can I climb outside opening hours?
Yes – if you hold a belay certificate. You can collect a key during staffed hours.
Do you sell punch cards and season passes?
Yes. Punch cards, seasonal passes and annual passes are available. Details at hemsedalklatresenter.no.
Do you rent other equipment as well?
Yes, depending on the season you can rent canoes, SUP boards and via ferrata equipment.
Do I need to be fit to climb?
No. Climbing is easily adapted to your level, and you choose your own pace and height.
How much does it cost?
165 NOK per person. Rental equipment: harness 40 NOK / climbing shoes 40 NOK.
