The History of Hemsedal Bygdatun
The farmstead Øvre Løkji is one of the oldest farms in Hemsedal, with roots dating back to the migration period. The farm includes historic buildings such as the main house, storehouse, barn, cowshed, stable, and smithy – built between 1642 and 1876. You can also explore the sauna and mountain hut from Lykkja, providing an authentic look at how farm life evolved over time.
Preserved cultural landscapes and beautiful hiking trails
The surrounding cultural landscape has remained almost unchanged for hundreds of years, with stone fences and clearing piles that tell stories of hard work and toil. Restoration and grazing efforts are now helping to reopen these historic fields. In fact, the cultural landscape at Øvre Løkji is considered of "special national interest"!
Discover Old Mountain Trails: From the farmstead, you can follow the historic path up to Skogshorn, leading to popular hiking destinations like Geiteberget, Storhøvde, and Skurvefjell.
