Want to learn how to navigate safely in the mountains? Join our basic avalanche course! Choose between a 2- or 3-day course that provides essential knowledge for safe travel in winter terrain.

The 2-day course offers a comprehensive introduction to trip planning, avalanche forecasting, hazard assessment, route selection, and companion rescue using transceiver equipment. This course is perfect for anyone looking to gain confidence in the mountains.

FAQ – Two-Day Avalanche Course

What will I learn on the course?
You’ll get a solid introduction to safe winter travel: tour planning, understanding avalanche forecasts, assessing avalanche danger, choosing safe routes and practising companion rescue using transceiver, shovel and probe.

Is this course suitable for beginners?
Yes. It’s designed for anyone who wants a strong foundation before ski touring or freeriding – and it’s equally useful as a refresher.

Where does the course take place?
In the mountains around Hemsedal. The instructors pick terrain that offers good learning conditions and safe choices.

How practical is the course?
Very. Most of the learning happens outdoors through real scenarios, with close guidance throughout.

Do I need my own equipment?
Bring your own skis, boots and clothing suited for winter conditions. Avalanche gear (transceiver, shovel, probe) can be borrowed if needed.

How many participants per instructor?
A maximum of 6 people per guide, ensuring plenty of personal follow-up.

Does the course run in all weather?
Yes, but the instructors always adapt terrain and plans to the conditions. Safety first – always.

What does it cost?
NOK 3,200 per person (minimum 3 participants). Avalanche equipment is included.
