Start the day in hiking boots.
End it in a bathrobe.

Start the day in the mountains
Totten – big views, low stress
If you want that proper high mountain feeling without spending the entire day hiking, Totten is a perfect choice.
Take the chairlift up from Hemsedal Ski Resort and start the hike from around 1000 metres above sea level. From here, the trail continues towards Totten along a relatively easy blue-marked trail and gravel road with beautiful views almost the entire way.
At the summit, 1497 metres above sea level, you are rewarded with fresh mountain air and panoramic views across large parts of Hemsedal.
This is the perfect mountain hike for those wanting to feel a little pulse in their legs without starting at sunrise or returning completely exhausted several hours later.
Lunch in the mountains
On your way down, Fjellkafeen is the perfect stop for coffee, lunch or a waffle in the sun before taking the chairlift back down or continuing on foot.
You can walk down via the alpine slope Sentrumsløypa if you want to head towards Fyri Resort and the village centre, or follow Turistløypa towards the Skarsnuten area.
Still have some energy left? Then a walk down to the centre might be a great idea. Enjoy lunch by the river Hemsila, soak up the atmosphere near the beach area and slow things down properly before the spa part of the day begins.
Sometimes that is really all you need.

For those wanting a little more pulse
If you want a slightly more challenging hike before spa and dinner later in the day, Røggjin is a very good option.
The hike takes you through the Holdeskaret area with open mountain terrain, beautiful views and a steeper start compared to Totten. You can either drive to the trailhead or start from Skarsnuten and follow the gravel road further into the mountains before continuing on the trail towards the summit.
Another option is to follow the ski trail up towards Roni and use a map to connect with the marked trail leading to Røggjin.
The hike is considered a red difficulty trail and takes around 2.5–3 hours if you follow the marked route, but the views at the top make the effort absolutely worth it.
And afterwards? Spa feels even better.
A stop at Skarsnuten
If you start or finish your hike near Skarsnuten, it is almost impossible not to stop for something good to eat or drink while enjoying the mountain views.

Swap hiking boots for an e-bike
Not every mountain day needs to happen on foot.
Both Fyri and Skarsnuten rent out e-bikes, as well as Moh+ in the village centre and SkiStar at the ski resort. The gravel roads stretching into Holdeskaret are perfect for relaxed rides with big views and just the right amount of effort. Check the Hemsedal appen for route tips and inspiration.
This is less about speed and more about simply gliding through the mountains with fresh air in your face and zero guilt about taking extra breaks along the way.
Just remember to pack lunch and something good to drink. These are the kinds of rides where you often end up staying out longer than planned.

Slow things down a little
There is something special about tired legs after a mountain hike followed by warm water afterwards.
At Fyri Pool Club you can sink into warm pools, play shuffleboard, table tennis or chess and simply let the pace slow all the way down.
At Skarsnuten Spa, saunas, treatments, warm pools and mountain views are waiting while the evening sun hits the peaks outside the windows.
This might actually be when Hemsedal is at its very best in summer. When the hike is already done and the rest of the day is simply about enjoying it.

Dinner that lasts a little longer than planned
Dinner somehow tastes even better after a day outdoors.
Maybe it becomes a long dinner at Liv at Fyri Resort. Maybe dinner with mountain views at Skarsnuten. In the village centre you will also find Bistro at Skogstad Hotel and Hemsedal Cafe, both perfect for a relaxed summer evening meal.
Or maybe it is simply a good drink in your hand while your legs still feel pleasantly tired from the mountains earlier that day.
One of the nicest things about summer in Hemsedal is that nobody really seems to be in much of a hurry.
