The Big Question: When Does Hemsedal Open for the Season?
It’s the question on everyone’s lips – and, as usual, the hardest one to answer.
To put it simply: Hemsedal Ski Resort (SkiStar Hemsedal) and Solheisen need snow before they can open. And for snow, we need cold temperatures.
Right now, on 4 November, it’s still above zero in the mountains. But winter is on its way! Keep an eye on the long-term forecast on yr.no – the chill will arrive before you know it.
SkiStar Hemsedal says they’ll open no later thanthe Ski Test Weekend on 12 December, but they’ll start spinning the lifts as soon as there’s enough snow for real Hemsedal skiing.
Solheisen Skisenter is planning to open around 20 December, just in time for Christmas.
So, while we wait for snowflakes and minus degrees, there’s plenty happening in Hemsedal to keep the winter spirit alive:

Stavkroa Goes Oslo – 15. november
Alright, not technically in Hemsedal – but a proper season warm-up when Stavkroa takes over Unity Arena in Oslo with a line-up of great artists.

Juleshow på Fýri Resort – 27.–29. november
Three evenings of live entertainment, great food and good vibes.
Husflidlagets Christmas Market & Tree Lighting – last weekend of November
Kick off Advent at the cosy Christmas market at Kyrkjestugu, then head to Fýri Resort for tree lighting, choir singing, children’s activities and even a visit from Santa.
The local cinema is also showing Zootropolis 2 and Wicked 2 that weekend.
Pray 4 Snow – Hemsedal Café
The traditional season opener where we dance and call upon the snow gods! The date will be set as soon as the ski resort announces its opening.
The cold will come. The snow will follow.
And when the mountains turn white, Hemsedal will be ready to welcome you to another unforgettable ski season.
