Take Care of Hemsedal
Help us protect the mountains we all love
In Hemsedal, you're sharing the outdoors with grazing livestock, wildlife, local farmers and fellow adventurers. By showing a little extra care, you help protect the landscape, the animals and the experiences that make Hemsedal such a special place.
Whether you're hiking to a mountain summit, cycling through the valleys or simply enjoying the fresh mountain air, small actions make a big difference.
How to be a responsible visitor
Enjoy the mountains while helping us protect them:
- Keep your dog on a lead where leash regulations apply.
- Respect grazing animals and wildlife.
- Stay on marked trails whenever possible.
- Leave gates as you find them.
- Take all litter home with you.
- Park only in designated parking areas.
- Be considerate of other people enjoying the outdoors.
- Help us preserve Hemsedal's nature for future generations.
Hiking with your dog
Keeping your dog on a lead protects wildlife, livestock – and your dog
Hemsedal has an extended leash requirement from 1 April to 31 October. During this period, dogs must be kept on a lead throughout the municipality, including in the mountains. This protects sheep, lambs, nesting birds and other wildlife during their most vulnerable season.
Even the friendliest dog can unintentionally frighten or chase grazing animals. Sheep may become separated from their lambs, wildlife can be disturbed, and your dog may also be at risk if it encounters livestock.
Keeping your dog on a lead is one of the easiest ways to help protect nature while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
