Lovely hike from the town centre of Hemsedal with a breathtaking view over Hemsedal.
In winter, you can walk this with snowshoes or, if many people have walked here, you can walk with winter shoes.

Waterfall on the way up
Waterfall on the way up

This hike is very suitable for children, and is highly recommended for everyone. You may start from the town center or drive the first part up to the gravel pit where the trail starts.

From the top, 920 meters above sea level, you will be able to see over the whole of Hemsedal, the ski resort and all the farms in the area. The  viewpoint is above the waterfall Haugsbekken, which is a popular waterfall for ice climbing in winter.

Please note! There are grazing animals in the area, so remember to close gates and keep your dog on a leash.

Author's advice

By the gravel pit there is a waterfall hidden in the forest. Check the map for exact location and be careful when walking towards it as it may be slippery and is steep.

Turn-by-turn directions

If you are walking from the town centre: Follow Trøimsvegen behind the Tourist Office, keep left along the river and cross over the bridge. Turn right onto Kyrkjebønsveien and follow the road past the old stavechurch grounds. Just after a large brown farm building on the right, turn right up to the gravel pit and follow the marked trail from there.

From the gravel pit: The trail winds up a rought tractor track through the forest. At the junction where you can turn right for the black trail to Kyrkjenønøset, continue straight ahead. The trail soon flattens out. Look for the sign to Steget, as you have to turn left to get out to the look out point. Return the same way.

Please note! There are grazing animals in the area, so remember to close gates and keep your dog on a leash.

Safety information

  • Keep track on the map and where the marked trail goes as there are several detours along the way.
