How to get there
Drive in direction of Gol. After 9 km from the Tourist Office turn right at the signpost for Torsetstølane/Avfallsmottak. Turn left at the next crossing and follow the toll road to Torsetstølane. Once you are above the tree line turn right and drive to the end of the road. Follow the steep path.
Parking
Park at the end of the road on the big parking lot by Torsetstølane.
Safety
Be careful not to loosen any larger stones up the side of the hill when climbing Storehødn, the stones might roll down hill and hit other hikers.
Tip
If you're bringing a dog along we recommend taking the west side of the mountain, as the eastern route is quite steep and rocky.
Description
This is a challenging but manageable route that starts high up in the cultural landscape by the Torset-summer farms. The start of the route is already above the tree line.
The start of the path is quite steep, but once you get to the same altitude as the lake Hydnetjernet, it flattens out substantially. From there it's an easy-going stroll across the river where you can see the brink of the waterfall Hydnefossen, and then onwards to the foot of Storehødn. The ascent of Storehødn is quite steep so pace yourself and enjoy the view along the way.
When you reach the top you will have an unhindered view of the surrounding areas and peaks.
If you would prefer not to walk the same path back down, it is possible to descend on the opposite side of the mountain, to then walk back to the start point along the southern side of Storehødn.
This is a fantastic hike if you wish to see Hemsedals geography from the top!
