13 new snow guns boost snowmaking in Hemsedal

When temperatures drop and conditions are right, Hemsedal will be able to make even more snow. For winter 2026/27, SkiStar is expanding its snowmaking capacity with 13 new snow guns.

More snowmaking capacity when it matters

The new snow guns will increase snowmaking capacity during periods when temperatures and weather conditions are favourable. The aim is to create more reliable conditions throughout the season, with the investment particularly important during the early winter and in the run-up to Christmas and New Year.

The investment in Hemsedal is part of a wider upgrade to snowmaking across SkiStar's Scandinavian ski destinations ahead of winter 2026/27. In total, the company plans to add almost 500 new snow guns.

Improved snow guarantee in Hemsedal

At the same time, SkiStar is strengthening its Alpine Snow Guarantee. From 18 December 2026 until 4 April 2027, SkiStar guarantees at least 13 open slopes in Hemsedal, up from nine previously.

If the Snow Guarantee cannot be fulfilled, guests who have booked through SkiStar can cancel or end their stay and receive a refund in accordance with the terms of the guarantee.

Ready for winter

Hemsedal Ski Resort is planning its official season opening in connection with Ski Test Weekend on 11 December, but will open earlier if snow conditions allow. The winter season is planned to continue all the way through to 2 May 2027.

With increased snowmaking capacity, Hemsedal is better equipped for a reliable start to the winter – although we'll still be cheering loudest for the kind of snow that falls straight from the sky. ❄️
