Rafiki tells the story of the legend Mufasa, king of the Lion Kingdom, to young Kiara (the daughter of Simba and Nala), with Timon and Pumbaa present in their classic style.
The story is told through flashbacks, introducing us to Mufasa as a lost lion cub who meets the royal heir Taka. Mufasa and Taka grow up as brothers before embarking on an expansive journey in search of their destinies. The relationships within the group are tested as they attempt to evade a looming enemy.
The film, blending live-action techniques with photorealistic computer-generated imagery, is directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), with songs by award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda.
