Kino - I Swear

A warm, honest and deeply moving story about growing up on the outside – and finding strength in being yourself. I Swear is the Cinema Club’s selected film and one of the most powerful cinema experiences of 2026.

I Swear

Age rating: 12 years
Duration: 2 hours
Genre: Drama / Biography
Language: English
I Swear is based on the true story of John Davidson, who grew up with Tourette’s in 1980s Scotland – long before most people understood what the condition really meant. His childhood was marked by misunderstanding, bullying and exclusion, but also by courage, humour and the people who chose to stand by him.
Featuring outstanding performances by Shirley Henderson, Peter Mullan, Robert Aramayo and Maxine Peake, the film is written and directed by Kirk Jones. He tells the story with warmth, openness and a touch of humour – without shying away from the difficult moments.
This is a film about being seen. About friendship that carries you through. And about the power of community when life feels overwhelming.
The film is rated 12 due to scenes of bullying, punishment, self-harm and a violent assault, which may be disturbing for younger viewers. Recommended for teenagers and adults.
The Cinema Club selected I Swear because it shines a light on society’s underdogs – delivering both heartfelt and humorous moments throughout. A film that stays with you long after the credits roll.
