Day Cinema - A Day Without Women

When 90% of Iceland’s women stopped working for a day, the entire country nearly came to a standstill – creating a historic turning point for gender equality.
A Day Without Women
On 24 October 1975, women across Iceland walked out of both paid work and household duties. With almost the entire female population participating, the nation suddenly realised just how essential their work truly was.
The Day Women Went on Strike tells the remarkable story of the day that shook a nation. Through archive footage and personal stories, the documentary brings us close to the women behind the movement – and shows how their collective action sparked political change and a new debate about equality.
Nearly 50 years later, the story remains strikingly relevant, reminding us of the power of standing together.
