The Vavatn trails are marked high mountain trails on the east side of Vavatn. Fantastic area with opportunities for short and long trips. Along the water, the trail runs on the summer road and is relatively flat. There are also side routes from this that go through more rugged terrain.

Equipment

  • Mountain skis recommended.
  • Extra clothes, food, and drink.
  • Map, compass, and any other necessary equipment.

Safety information

  • These are high mountain trails marked from around the weekend of week 7. Not groomed.
  • Choose your route according to your ability and current conditions, and remember that the weather changes quickly in the mountains. Turn back in time (or choose another route). See weather forecast at yr.no.
  • Bring extra clothes, food, and drink to be better prepared if something unexpected happens.
  • For safety, it is also recommended to bring a map and compass.
  • There may be poor or no mobile coverage in parts of the trail.

Topographic maps for Hemsedal with cross-country ski trails, mountain hikes/trails, and bike routes can be purchased at Hemsedal Tourist Office and sports shops.

Directions

Note that in winter you must use the winter road up Grosetlie as Hydalsvegen is closed for winter.

From the center, follow Rv52 approx. 4.6 km towards Tuv. Turn right towards Grøndalen. Just after Solheisen, turn right up Grosetlie.
Toll road, card payment.

It is also possible to use the ski lift at Solheisen up to the trails.

Parking at Oset when you arrive at Vavatn.
