A family-friendly red hike that takes you up on the mountain of Røggjin. From the peak of the mountain, you'll be able to see the entire ski resort and the surrounding mountain area. Towards the southeast, you will see the big dam of Flævatn and the mountains of Reineskarvet.

Author's advice

During the wintertime, this is a perfect hike for snowshoeing from the Roni ski lift in Hemsedal Ski Resort.

Turn-by-turn directions

When you come up the hill from the Holdeskaret parking, turn left until you meet the blue-marked trail up to the right. (There is also a shortcut up a little earlier.) The trail starts in a lovely forest. At the tree line you come out onto a stone trail that takes you further to the top. Return the same way. The path is a little steep a few places, however please stay on the path as there are some cliffs around the mountain. Also, be aware as the rocks you walk on the last half of the hike gets very slippery when wet.

Safety information

  • A topographic hiking map may be handy.
  • Always choose hikes based on your ability and current conditions. The weather changes quickly in the mountains.
  • As much of the hike is on rocky surface, it gets very slippery when wet.
  • Stay on the trail as it is steep around you.
